Stroked : A tribute to Is This It.

Stereogum have done a tribute to The Strokes by doing an album of covers with different, musicians of this decade. The importance of Is This It ,besides it’s good musicality ,for the music industry is a representation that indie rock was steel a good viability. Since at the beginning of the century record companies and artists were afraid that rock music was going to be shadowed by pop music.

In the late nighties creatives of the music industry thought that there should be a forced watershed in the beginning of the new decade and millennium;that happened before in previous decades in a very natural form.Music is a reflection of society where is their dreams, aspirations or reality; therefore this changes shouldn’t be forced.Pop was the solution. Then The Vines came to the music scene and proved that there was space for a new sound of rock and that consumers would accept it. In 2001 Is This It of The Strokes with the single Last Night appeared in scene and it reaffirmed that this space was available and ready to be occupied.Since then they have been working hard and they are here to stay until rock alouds it.

Personally i try to not go back very much in music because i always disliked the people that gets trapped in the past of an era, specially where they were young thinking there is nothing good anymore, which couldn’t be more untrue since new talents in different arts are getting cooked more and more and being multiplied. For this reason is that i don’t go back much in the 90s or 00s music. But this new album was a good pretext to revise this particular C.D. ( yes in those times people listened to those).

Enjoy and if you like it you can download the tracks or complete album in Stereogum’s page,

Watch Glastonbury Festival 2011 Live

Another Classic within the Music Festival Scene : Glastonbury, rocking since 1970  . Many other festivals have taken inspiration from this one, even to create their lineups, because Glasto ( as it is cherished called) team arrange a fantastic and impressive one, year after year, anyone important and or up coming in the Rock ( in all of their genres)  or Pop will be playing here.

I love that internet aloud us being there without having to be in the exact place. Breaking the copyright idea that old dinosaurs have in the music industry and any copyright law enforcement protector ,that says that you have to charge for everything. The success is in the festival itself and therefore the profit. This platform just reaffirms the product in a worldwide position. So they better start playing the new game and start forgetting the one that ruled in the 80´s and mid 90´s.

UPDATE: Apparently there is steel dinosaurs in every industry. Glasto is not available for people outside their country.I don’t know if the massive following attention of the festival outside the UK made people who manages BBC page close it for foreigners ,due to a problem with bandwidth or copyright .They should arrange this for the rest of it or at least for next year. Coachella was available to anyone in Youtube Live.

Enjoy,

P.S: Two Door Cinema Club Playing right now. They sound so good live, just like in the record but with the spice of the live ambiance.

THE ORIGINAL LAMBADA BY KAOMA .- Was it filmed in Hipster Ville?

Please ,please you gotta check out the 1989 original Lambada video. I know it is all over the place because J.Lo recently made a version of it. But what i really want you to observe is the aesthetics of the video. It looks like it was recorded in this Spring-Summer 2011 season and specifically targeted to hipsters of this era.The obvious reason for this to happen is that fashion recycles it´s trends and that they were really fashion forward at their time or maybe inspiration from this video has made it to the runways. Funny , ha?

Observe the next pointers at the video:

  • The colors of the clothing : Vibrant yellows , oranges, mixed with whites. Very similar to what Prada is presenting this season.
  • The skirts of the girls: The cut is the same that girls are using this days , the difference is that you find them in the market with floral motives.
  • The pants of the boys: White ,with a thin summery belt, boating style. Getting tighter in the ankles .Just as every runway has presented for the last two season for men clothing.
  • The shirt that the little girl wear: This shirt has been out and present for men and woman during the past five summers.
  •  The nerdy glasses of people in the background: Yeah that is trade mark of nerdy hipsters ,isn’t it?
  • The haircut of the dad:Is the haircut that many male models have been showing in the runway during the last two seasons and that you can spot on many male clothing adds. The only modification i can tell is that men wear it a little bit shorter in the sides.
  • The hair due of the little girl:You can identify that hair due in most of fashionable girls in the streets now.Perhaps if you are in a public space you can point at one.
  • The hair due of main singer: The hair due is the classical one that any rock singer would roll on with.
  • Panameñan Hat: Yep , there is a dude in background with one of those, if that doesn’t scream hipsterland , i don’t know what does.
  • Shoes:Boating shoes all over the place.
  • The boat in the background: That screams summer in any photo tumblr or blogg.

If i´m missing any pointers please let me know.

Enjoy,

P.S: I want my future kids to have the rhythm of the little ones of the video and i wanna dance like that too.
